Dr. Brent Gentzel

Senior Pastor

Brent has served as the Senior Pastor of FBC Kaufman since 2000, leading with a deep love for the local church and a strong commitment to seeing lives transformed by the gospel. He guides the vision and direction of the church, preaching and teaching God’s Word while equipping leaders and ministries to reach Kaufman County and the world—one changed life at a time.

Brent holds a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and History from Hardin-Simmons University. With more than three decades of ministry experience—including prior roles in college and associate ministry—Brent is passionate about building gospel-centered friendships and helping people grow into spiritual maturity.

In addition to his role at FBC Kaufman, Brent is the Founder and Executive Director of A Healing Path. A People of Hope., a Texas–Ukraine Baptist church partnership created in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The initiative connects churches across both nations in long-term, prayer-centered relationships focused on discipleship, pastoral care, trauma-aware ministry, and shared mission. Through pastor-to-pastor friendships, unified spiritual growth campaigns, mental health support, and local church-led initiatives such as camps, worship collaboration, and community care, Healing Path seeks to strengthen churches to serve as trusted places of healing and gospel hope in communities shaped by conflict and loss.

He’s a history nerd, a foodie, and a frequent traveler—Germany is a favorite. He also loves connecting with other pastors and encouraging everyday people to live out their faith with purpose and joy. Brent and his wife Julie have two grown sons, Stephen and Ryan, and recently stepped into a new season of life as grandparents—one of their greatest joys.
